These travel tips for your hair and skin are simple and fab…
It’s been almost a year since I embarked on one of the greatest adventures of my life. Traveling through Europe for two months was amazing and I can’t wait to travel again.
What I’m not looking forward to?
Packing.
It’s always so hard to narrow down the essentials to bring with you on any trip whether it’s for 1 week or 2 months.
Here’s a list of tips to help you figure out what to pack while maintaining your fabulous look on your next adventure!
1. Break From Hot Tools
Vacations are a great time to give your hair a break from hot tools. Blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons are big and chunky and can take up lots of space in a suitcase or backpack. Think realistically about how much you’ll be using them. When I was in Europe, I only brought my flat iron for special occasions. I didn’t want to spend all my time on my hair. I wanted to be out exploring! I also had a handy travel case for my flat iron that allowed me to put it right away without having to worry about burning or setting fire to everything.
Remember that electrical outlets may be different depending on where you are travelling. Research what adaptors you may need for your tools before you leave.
Most of the time, I let my hair air dry and used my KMS Tame Frizz De-Frizz Oil, which is great for adding shine and smoothing out frizz. It made my hair soft and shiny without putting in a lot of time or effort. If you have longer hair, you can put your hair in a braid so it’s out of your way. Plus, when it dries you will have nice waves that you can wear the next day!
2. Use Travel Bottles
Find the travel size of your favourite professional shampoo and conditioner. Sometimes salons will have them in stock or it may be possible to order them in. If this is something you want, make sure you go at least a month before your trip to leave time for them to arrive. There are also many places where you can pick up clear carry on sized bottles to put your favourite products in.
Using a professional shampoo is extremely beneficial ALWAYS, but especially when traveling. Hot water was an issue in some of the hostels I stayed in. So, to get in and out of the shower faster I didn’t get my hair wet at all most days. Drug store shampoos are filled with waxes and silicons that will weigh down your hair and make it feel greasier faster. You will be able to go longer between shampoos with a professional product and won’t need to use as much either because they’re more concentrated. Yep, that means you won’t have to bring as much, saving on important space.
3. Get a Facial
Getting a facial before going on your vacation is great to get your skin glowing and beautiful. Just make sure you do it at least a week before going on your trip especially if you are going to be out in the sun.
Since I was in Europe for two months, I brought more skin care products then if I were just going for a week or two. I packed my Dermalogica Ultracalming cleanser, daily microfoliant and moisturizer. I personally like mixing my daily microfoliant with my cleanser because it saved me time in the morning while getting ready.
If I were going for a week I probably would have just brought my cleanser and moisturizer. Getting a tinted moisturizer would be the best because that can double as foundation for your makeup. One with SPF is even better! If you’re looking for travel sizes of skincare products Dermalogica has skin kits with travel sizes of multiple products so you don’t have to worry about leaving anything behind.
A facial before you leave can really give you that extra clean boost while you’re away from your regular skincare routine.
4. Keep Makeup Simple
Now deciding what makeup to bring was the tricky part for me. I have 6 drawers packed full of makeup so narrowing it down to the basics was hard. I kept it simple with a compact foundation that also had SPF. It came with a sponge for applying, which meant I didn’t have to worry about bringing a bunch of makeup brushes (which I also have a million of). I also brought a powder for setting and blush and bronzer for days that I wanted to dress up a bit more.
Other then that I packed my brow pomade and mascara because those are definitely the two things I cant go without. A small eye shadow pallet is nice too, but again being on vacation I didn’t want to spend a ton of time getting ready. Many days I didn’t wear much if any make up and saved it for going out at night. Keep makeup to the essentials and whenever possible find containers that will pack easily and won’t break or spill.
5. Find What’s Comfortable
The final and most important tip of all is to be comfortable in the skin you’re in. Take a step outside of your comfort zone and don’t style your hair or don’t do your makeup everyday. It’s a great time to give your hair and skin a break!
There’s nothing more glamorous then being confident. Being on vacation is about relaxing and having fun. If you’re spending a bunch of time worrying about your hair and makeup you will miss out on time for exploring.
