Mens Hair Now Trending
At Element Hair, we pride ourselves on staying ahead of trends, being thought-leaders in our industry and bringing the latest to our clients. With Movember in full swing, our Twitter feed has been blowing up with every guy we know growing a mo’ in support of this great cause. With this influx of male selfies, it got us thinking about men’s hair, both on the face and on the head. Last month we spoke to ladies hair trends, this month it’s all about the guys! Let’s dig right into the top hair trends for males.
The Long Undercut
When it comes to hair, much like with fashion, what is sometimes most interesting are juxtapositions. Stark contrasts between two very different looks can be unexpected, intriguing and fresh and often sets apart the trend followers from the trend setters. In the world of hairstyles, a blurry fade really stands out against a sharp line, clean cut sideburns add interest to a full beard and maybe one of the most trendy contrasts of late; a short undercut paired with long hair. With grunge styles of the 90’s making a comeback in a big way, more men are choosing to grow their hair out. By leaving hair long and adding an interesting undercut, you’re able to put a fun spin on a classic look. Try leaving hair long at the front and only few inches long at the back and sides, it works well whether your hair is thick, thin, straight or curly!
Beards, Beards and more Beards
Beards have always been there – they’re nothing new, not some earth shattering new trend surfacing for the first time and shaking up the industry. However, we must say that the beard is seeing somewhat of a resurgence with men everywhere growing out their face mane and rocking it with intense pride. What we find most interesting is the culture surrounding beards. The Guardian said it best, stating, “A beard is not a fad. It’s not fashion. It’s a lifestyle.”
The Man Bun
There is absolutely no way we could write a blog about men’s hair trends without touching upon the ever popular man bun. Once a look rocked only by European soccer players, it was then seen all over the UK style scene being adopted by the likes of Harry Styles and making women swoon. The man bun has now gone viral with entire Buzzfeed articles acting as shrines to this trend. It seems as though men everywhere are growing out their hair only to pull it taut in a tiny man bun.
Clean and Professional
In a poll conducted by GQ of over 500 barbers across North America, it was deemed that keeping it clean, short and professional was the most popular men’s hairstyle. What does this mean exactly? Essentially, keeping it longer on the top and letting it fade to short around the sides and back. With the hair left longer on top this allows for easy styling that works for both casual and work settings. Bonus: this look also works well for any hair type including thick and curly hair.
