Mens Styling Trends For 2014
Men’s apparel has evolved passed blasé khakis, polos, and oxfords and on to more streamlined and interesting pieces. Hair has gone with it. 2014 will be a year of progression, inspired by throwback culture and music the looks will evolve from prim slicked-back styles to easy, looser shapes.
The year begins with more barbered looks; think of the 1950s war hero, tapered and preened styles with sharp grooming. The looks spawned from an interest in the Rock n’ Roll era, specifically the American subculture of Rockabilly. Back then it was guys like Johnny Cash, Elvis, and Carl Perkins driving the trend and inspiring men to don the legendary Quiff. Today, Bruno Mars, David Beckham, and Henry Holland have picked up the mantle, personifying the current drift in men’s fashions.
The direction has been around for several seasons, so as summer turns to fall expect the coolest cats to adopt the predicted emerging trend. We’re calling it Modify (you heard it here first!) because the shift in men’s hairdressing is inspired by the 1960s British mod culture. Think of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Who. Or think of Jim Sturgess and Pete Doherty. These softer styles feature longer backs and sides with shorter tops, creating disciplined masculine shapes with deconstructed edges.
Here’s three products to create either aesthetic – available at Element Hair Studio…
For spring’s barbered looks, use the above products, Hair Gel to sculpt as you blow dry, use Cream Wax to polish and perfect shapes, and use Defining Cream to add sharpness. These men’s hair fashion products are exclusively available at Element Hair Studio – an Arrojo NYC Ambassador Salon.
